Find answers to common questions about counselling and mental health therapy on the Gold Coast with Hope Prevails.
How do I know which type of therapy is right for me?
What types of therapy do you offer on the Gold Coast?
At my Gold Coast therapy practice, I offer a range of evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), and Psychodynamic Therapy—tailored to suit your unique needs.
During our initial consultation, we’ll discuss your goals, concerns, and preferences. As a qualified mental health therapist on the Gold Coast, I’ll guide you toward the therapy approach that best supports your individual journey and emotional wellbeing.
Do you offer in-person and online therapy sessions on the Gold Coast?
Yes, I offer in-person sessions, secure online therapy sessions, and even phone sessions for clients who prefer the flexibility and comfort of remote support.
How long does each therapy session last?
Standard therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes. However, longer sessions can be arranged if needed, especially for EMDR or trauma-focused work.
How much does therapy cost on the Gold Coast?
Each session is $200 for a 60 minute session or a $90 gap fee if you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan. This is below the recommended rate of $289 for a 60 minute session with an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker in Australia.
Do you offer Medicare rebates for therapy?
Yes. To access a Medicare rebate, a valid Mental Health Care Plan is required from your GP. Once you have this plan in place, you can claim the rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. This means you only pay the gap fee of $90 for a 60 minute session.
Is everything I share in therapy confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a core part of the therapeutic relationship. As a registered mental health therapist, I adhere to strict ethical guidelines to ensure your privacy is protected.
Do I need a referral to see a therapist on the Gold Coast?
No referral is necessary to begin therapy. You can contact me directly to book your first session. If you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, we can discuss how that might apply.
What should I expect in my first therapy session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, explore your goals, and develop a plan for moving forward in a safe and supportive environment.
Can therapy really help me?
Yes—therapy has helped many people manage anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and life transitions. With the right therapist and approach, it can be a powerful tool for healing and personal growth.
